Childish Wonder

2022

A vibrant plus-size graduate collection created at Fedisa Fashion School in 2022, celebrating fat bodies through colour, print, and visibility. Featuring digitised versions of my mother’s archival screen prints created during her art school years, the collection rejects the fashion industry’s impulse to dull or hide larger bodies—offering joy, memory, and unapologetic presence instead.

This was my graduate collection from Fedisa Fashion School in 2022—a plus-size range created in joyful defiance of a fashion industry that so often seeks to invisibilise fat bodies through dull palettes and shapeless silhouettes. Bright, bold, and celebratory, this collection centres fatness not as something to hide, but as something to adorn, to dress up, and to honour through colour, texture, and form.

A deeply personal layer of this work was my use of screen prints originally made by my mother during her art school years, before my sister and I were born. She used to print her designs on T-shirts to sell, and many of these garments and fabrics remained with us throughout our childhood—worn, passed down, and folded into our everyday lives. I digitised her prints for this collection, preserving them beyond their fragile physical copies and bringing them into a new context. Her iconic rose print now appears in almost everything I make—a symbol of creative inheritance, memory, and care.

The collection was also a celebration of childish wonder—the joy of dressing up, of turning clothing into play and performance, of making the everyday feel extraordinary. These themes, like adornment as self-celebration and the body as a site of joy, continue to shape my work today. Looking back, this project laid the foundation for the ways I still use fashion to honour memory, reclaim space, and craft softness around the body.

After graduating, I was invited to take part in a fashion show organised by Body Lovin' Series—a platform that celebrates bodies often excluded from mainstream fashion. As part of this event, I created additional looks to extend the original collection, which is featured at the end.
