Undocumented game of life
2025
Amsterdam
This was my first graphic design job, where I used the Adobe skills I developed during fashion school to design and bring to life a board game called Undocumented: The Game of Life. The game was created to help educators in the Netherlands better understand the challenges undocumented youth face in navigating the education system.
Undocumented Game of Life is a board game designed in collaboration with a research team at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and a group of undocumented youth, who co-created the game based on their lived experiences. Loosely inspired by The Game of Life, the game reflects how undocumented youth must navigate educational systems and constant uncertainty.

Players move along a path of coloured tiles, drawing unlucky, lucky, and chance cards that represent real scenarios—ranging from unexpected setbacks to rare moments of opportunity. The randomness of the game mimics the instability of undocumented life, especially in relation to education, housing, and legal status.
This was my first professional graphic design role, where I applied the Adobe skills I learned in fashion school to bring the game to life visually. The result is both an educational tool and a conversation starter—designed to foster empathy, especially among educators and institutions working with undocumented communities. The game is currently in the workshop phase, so there may be some discrepancies as it continues to be refined through testing and feedback. All of the character sketches used throughout the game are of the team of who created it.
